The highly anticipated 2024 Nairobi City Marathon, initially set to take place this Sunday, July 7, has been rescheduled to September 8.

This decision was announced by the Nairobi city marathon’s organizing team, citing unavoidable external circumstances beyond their control as the reason for the postponement.

The decision came after thousands of registered athletes proposed a new date for the event.

While the postponement is an inconvenience to many, the committee expressed their appreciation to those who were eager for the marathon to proceed as planned.

In a public statement, the committee apologized for any inconvenience caused, empathizing with participants who had invested time and resources in preparation for the marathon.

“We apologize to anyone who had expended resources and time for this marathon and empathize with the inconvenience brought upon you by the sudden change of plans,” read the statement in part.

The committee assured that this delay would be utilized to enhance the marathon, promising a bigger and better event than previous editions.

“We will push full steam ahead and work non-stop to ensure that the marathon is one of the biggest, most memorable events across the globe this year,” stated the Nairobi city marathon team.

The committee encouraged interested athletes to take advantage of this extended period to join the marathon.

“The additional time will also allow more participants to register and train for the event,” the marathon’s team added.

The organizing committee extended their gratitude to all stakeholders who have contributed to the success of past marathons and the upcoming event.

They called on everyone to maintain their enthusiasm and support as preparations continue.

“We thank all those who have thus far registered, many of whom include foreign athletes,” the team expressed.

Notably, the participation of foreign athletes is expected to elevate the competition, boosting the marathon’s status as a significant global event.

“We believe that the entry of these foreign athletes will go a long way in spicing up the competition and enhancing Nairobi City Marathon’s status as one of the world’s most-watched road races,” read the statement in part from the Nairobi City marathon team.

As the countdown to the new date begins, the committee remains dedicated to ensuring a smooth and successful event on September 8.

They have promised an unforgettable experience for all participants and spectators.
