State Department for Vocational and Technical Training Principal Secretary, Mr Kevit Desai has given a five months ultimatum to a contractor to complete construction of a vocational training institute in Laikipia County.
According to Mr. Desai, construction work started in 2016 and should have been completed two years ago. At the present only 40 percent of work is done. The institute located at Kabage village is supposed to serve Laikipia West constituency.
PS Desai spoke as he inspected construction work at the Institute. He said that the government will not accept delay for such a project as it is meant to promote skills among residents particularly the youth in line with the Big Four Agenda.
Mr Desai said KSh100 million worth of learning equipment has already been procured for the Institute. Residents were pleased with the Directive, saying that finally area youth would have an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills.
Marmanet ward MCA Simon Kanyutu, said that youth from the area were being forced to travel to join other TVETs in the other areas due to unjustified delays by the contractor. The MCA termed the project as a disgrace to Laikipia West constituency and an embarrassment to elected leaders.
