As a run-up to Culture Week, Kenyatta University held a pre- culture event on Friday 27th September at the University amphitheater. A Salsa dance featuring Kenyatta University’s Mist Salsa group and Columbia’s “Ensaslate Group” was simply outstanding.
The event was graced by her Excellency Elizabeth Taylor, the Colombian ambassador to Kenya and Amb Amina Mohammed, Kenya’s Cabinet secretary of Sports, Gender and Culture. The two dignitaries promised that a Memorandum of Understanding will see Kenyatta University Salsa students go and train in Columbia.
Salsa dance originated from Eastern Cuba and is now popular world over. Salsa dance socials are commonly held in night clubs, bars, ballrooms, restaurants, and outside, especially as part of an outdoor festival. The movements of Salsa are a combination of the Afro-Cuban dances Son, cha-cha-cha, Mambo, Rumba, and the Danzón.
