280 Ndhiwa pupils learn under trees

At least 280 Nyagidha Primary School pupils learn under trees after their classrooms were destroyed by a storm.

The Sunday evening storm in Ndhiwa ravaged six classrooms. Classes for early childhood development and education were also destroyed.

The storm blew off roofs and walls. Nobody was injured. Head teacher Pamela Okode said the incident caused huge losses. “I appeal to well-wishers to help us reconstruct,” she said. Ndhiwa subcounty Education director Maurice Jayoro urged stakeholders to intervene.

“We are liaising with the department of Public Works to assess the damage so we can have a target of what should be raised,” he said. Meanwhile, property of unknown value was destroyed by an inferno at Kuja Mixed Secondary in Homa Bay town. The Tuesday fire burnt a staff room, book store, deputy principal’s office, lab equipment and cashier’s office.
