Kenyatta University Television (KUTV) and Radio Service celebrated a huge milestone as its second cohort of the station’s intensive practical training program graduated in a colourful event at the university’s conference centre.

These courses include camera operations, studio technical operations, video editing news reporting and anchoring TV production and off- and on-air motion graphics.
“After finishing the training I was given the opportunity to anchor news on Sundays and Mondays and the training has enabled me to be an all-rounded person in the world of media,” Anyango Sylvia one of the graduates said.
Austin Akhonya the second graduate boasts of intensive training characterised by competent trainers thereby reducing the margin of error in television broadcasting and production.
“I was given the privilege of filming a show called Technovation and through that, I am learning a lot in filming and production,” Austin added.
Kutv’s director, Doctor George King’ara commends the training format and structures terming it as one that is up to date with current media trends and demands.
The student training happens in a well-equipped hands-on environment with one-on-one student trainer attention.
“We create a fully packaged studio operator who is able to do lighting, sound, studio setting and conduct live streaming setups,” said the head of KUTV studio technical operations, Joel Mulwa.
His sentiments were echoed by Labaan Shabaan, head of news KUTV and Samuel Ayonga, head of audio-video editing KUTV, who say that the training nurtures outstanding talents who do well in broadcasting across all levels.
“We’ve realised we have been churning out a lot of on- and off-air talents, if you look at the majority of local media and some international media you will find a KUTV product,” programs acquisition manager Bonphace Odhiambo reiterated.
Congratulations to the second cohort.
