372 GIRLS GIVEN A SECOND CHANCE TO PURSUE THEIR ACADEMIC DREAMS

After giving birth, young school going girls are forced to terminate their academic dreams due to lack of finance, low self esteem, among other issues.

However, for 372 girls from Baringo County, they got a second chance to continue pursuing their education after benefiting from the ‘Second Chance Program’ initiated by Baringo Woman Representative Gladwel Cheruiyot.

Most of these young girls who had dropped out of school after getting pregnant had to shelf their academic dreams and instead take care of their babies at home since their parents could not take them back to school due to financial constraints.

Luckily, the Second Chance initiative funded by the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) gave the girls a ray of hope to go back to school and pursue their dreams.

Some of those who were identified in the program were girls from vulnerable families including orphans, partial orphans and the most needy in the community.

According to the woman rep, she saw the need of targeting the girls who had buried their hopes of ever stepping inside a classroom following their current situation.

A total of Ksh 3.7 million has been pumped into the program and another Ksh. 7 million has been set aside for the second phase.
