39,361 Civil Servants Expected To Retire In The Next Five Years-Dr. Isaac Mwaura

Government spokesperson Hon. Sen (Dr) Isaac Mwaura has announced that public servants who have attained the retirement age to be released to retire immediately.

According to Dr.Mwaura this follows public request for servants who have attained the retirement age to retire in order to pave way for hiring young individuals.

On 5th July President Ruto announced austerity measures to be implemented under the 2024/2025 financial year including reorganization of the government, to fulfill his commitment to continually and effectively listen to people and incorporate their views to policy making and governance.

In a statement dispatch by Dr. Mwaura, the government is implementing its directive of paving way for the hiring of young generations.

According to the government spokesperson 39,361 civil servants are expected to retire in the next five years in addition to 7,477 officers who have retired between 13th September 2023 and 30th June 2024 from different positions.

“A total of 39,361 civil servants are expected to retire within the next five years,based on the June 2024 payroll.This is in addition to the 7,477 officers who have retired between 13th September 2023 and 30th June 2024 from state departments,county executives, and county assemblies,” read the statement.

“The payroll also indicates that 43,976 officers are aged 55 years and anove and are expected to retire between this year and 2029, with 7,662 expected to retire in this financial year alone,” the statement added.

The statement also revealed that 39,441 officers are serving the government under contractual terms which expires at different dates hence creating 46,838 job opportunities for unemployed youths.
