40-year- old woman found dead in a house in Bungoma

Police in Bungoma have launched investigations to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of a 40-year-old woman at a rental house in Bungoma town.

The body of the deceased, identified as Betty Khaemba, who was a hotelier was discovered by neighbors at Elegant estate.

The deceased’s mother, Eunice Musawa, tearfully pleaded with security agencies to do forensic investigations and smoke out the culprits behind the murder.

“I am saddened by the heinous incident, I loved my daughter so much, let the killers know no peace, follow them to the bitter end,” she said.

Mrs Musawa said that she last talked to her late daughter on phone last week and she had promised to come home this week.

According to preliminary investigations the deceased was last seen by friends on Sunday.

The deceased was killed by unknown people who poured acid on her body, covered her with several blankets, and then left her house door wide open.

“The last time I saw her was on Sunday and seeing her door open, we knew that she was inside. It is very unfortunate that we have found her dead,” said a neighbor who sought anonymity.

Area village elder, Peter Okello, said that he only learnt of the deceased’s murder as he was passing by her rented house.

“ There was a bad smell emanating from the house,” Okello added.

Mr Okello accused neighbors at Elegant estate of being indifferent.

“I am very annoyed with the neighbors of this area, how can someone be killed on this plot and people here are unaware, “he said.

Okello said that the murdered woman hails from Nangwe village in Kabuchai constituency, Bungoma Central.

“The family of the deceased has arrived here together with the police officers from Bungoma police station so that they can help with investigations,” he added.

Mr Okello said that the deceased lived alone .

“My daughter stays alone here in Bungoma town but I have her children at my rural home, she only comes to visit,” Mrs Musawa noted.

The body of the deceased was picked by police officers from Bungoma police station and taken to Bungoma County referral hospital mortuary for an autopsy as investigations follow.
