Five gangsters were Sunday shot dead after they were caught stealing at a house whose owners were away for a wedding ceremony, at Tom Mboya estate in Kisumu.
The felled criminals had broken into the home of two Indian businessmen – Ally Muhammed and Imran Juma at around 4pm in Kibuye estate.
To the gang’s surprise, some of the family members including one of the owners unexpectedly returned.

After the gang attempted to escape, Mr Juma alerted the police and officers from the Flying Squad immediately launched a hot pursuit for the thugs.
The five were mowed down by police bullets at Majengo area shortly before 5pm. Confirming the incident, Western region police commander Moses Ombati said a homemade gun loaded with three rounds of ammunition, clothes, jewellery and electronics including laptops and a TV set were found in the getaway car.
“All the suspects were gunned down. The homemade gun they had is capable of shooting someone,” Mr Ombati said.
The bodies were taken to Vihiga district hospital.
