A 50 year old male officer senior sergeant George Omomdi Omwa attached to Siaya- Huduma center was burnt to death this morning leaving colleagues at Siaya AP camp in deep shock. It’s reported that Senior Sergeant George Omondi locked himself in a store-room with two gas cylinders that blew up burning him beyond recognition. According to a neighbor who sought anonymity, Omondi was on Wednesday rescued twice when he attempted to stab himself on issues well known to him. “we suspect the incident is a suicide case because the deceased tried to kill himself with a knife on Wednesday and was dis armed by colleagues,” official said.. The motive of the incident is yet to be known. Official said Omondi was due for inspectorate training having gone through board. “It’s so unfortunate that we have lost Omondi who is expected to go for inspectorate training this October in Mombasa,” he added.
An eye witness Edwin Otieno said the deceased had pushed him out before locking the door to the store room with gas cylinders. Peter Otieno who dashed to the scene immediately the fire broke out, managed to switch off the electric switches and went to collect potable fire extinguishers from County Commissioners officers and tried to put out fire in vain. Siaya County Commissioner Mohamed Bare who confirmed the incident says investigation are underway to establish the cause of the fire. The furious residents blamed the county government fire fighters for responding late and the fire offices are 100 meters away from the scene. The body has been taken to Siaya referral mortuary awaits postmortem.
