Cord leader Raila Odinga has asked Elgeyo Marakwet residents to elect former Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo senator.
Kimaiyo has declared his interest to unseat incumbent Kipchumba Murkomen on the Kanu ticket. His endorsement comes as Kanu holds discussions over a possible alliance to defeat President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking at Chesongoch, Marakwet East, on Tuesday, Raila said Kimaiyo has the requisite experience.
He said Kimaiyo was a victim of a witch-hunt by leaders out to marginalize minority communities. Kimaiyo comes from the Kerio Valley. Raila accused Murkomen of being part of cartels that looted the National Youth Service.
He visited the Kerio Valley to console victims of banditry attacks. Raila urged them to vote out Jubilee. “You can’t complain about burying people every weekend, yet you remain in the same government that has failed to protect your people.”
