By Wilfridah Murenga

Education Cabinet Secretary on Thursday morning stated that 95% of schools in the country are ready to resume learning come Monday.

Speaking while assessing Karen C Secondary Nairobi, the CS assured that they have conducted a thorough assessment in all schools in all 47 counties.

“We have assessed every school. My regional directors of education and all the senior officers from the ministry of education plus the county directors of education countrywide in our 47 counties are out in the field to come up with reports specifically indicating the schools that are badly affected,” the CS said.

He further stated that it is about 2 percent of schools that are not ready for reopening as per the reports obtained and that the ministry is trying to find alternative ways to extend learning to the pupils and students who are affected.

“The specific schools that are badly affected and cannot be able to open are about 2%, we have the specific names of those schools,” he said.

According to the Cabinet Secretary, Homabay, Tana River, and Kisumu Counties are some of the areas where reopening of school may be delayed by a week or two as they continue to assess the situation.

Schools were to reopen on April 29th but due to the flash floods that the country was experiencing, the government issued directives to postpone reopening indefinitely.

The president however gave new directives for schools to be reopened next week on Monday.
