North Pokot people migrate over drought enchroachment

About 50 per cent of residents from North Pokot sub county have migrated to Uganda in search of pasture and water for their animals. They urged the Kenyan government to support the county to solve the drought crisis.

Speaking after distributing relief food on Wednesday, chief Moses Samal said Kiwawa and Alale wards are the worst hit by drought.

He said the majority of children under the age of 10 suffer from malnutrition.Samal said residents have to walk for kilometres to get water, which is not even safe for human consumption.

“We fear that cases of waterborne diseases may rise during this dry spell,” he said. IEBC officials said few people have turned up to register to vote.
