Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commissions today netted thirty-eight (38) Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in Trans-Nzoia together with their speaker and Clerk in connection with money laundering.
The Trans Nzoia Speaker, clerk, and 38 MCAs were arrested over graft allegations where they are reported to have misused over Ksh 1.7 million.
The Arrest
The majority of the ward representatives were arrested at their homes in Trans Nzoia before 6 am on Monday.
They were later taken to the EACC’s office in Eldoret for grilling ahead of court appearances.
According to EACC, the MCAs and county officials will be charged with offenses including false claims of allowances.
Allowance allegations
The MCAs are alleged to have obtained Sh47,000 illegal allowances each to attend a colleague’s in 2014.
“They will be taken to court because investigations are complete,” said EACC North Rift coordinator Enock Otiko.
