Politician Jackson Kibor has been charged with threatening to kill his son Ezekiel after shooting at him three times in a land dispute. Police stormed Kibor’s home and arrested him on Tuesday for misusing the weapon. He was taken to Eldoret police station.
Kibor said he fired at Ezekiel in self- defence, in the incident at Kabenes in Uasin Gishu on March 2, but his son claimed he intended to kill. The veteran politician and farmer was also charged at Eldoret law courts with refusing to have his finger prints taken at the station.
Kibor denied the charges before principal magistrate Harrison Barasa saying: “All that is not true, your honour.” Barasa released him on Sh100,000 bond but ordered that he be escorted to the station for the fingerprints to be taken.
The case will be heard on April 4. Kibor is involved in a dispute with his four sons over ownership of the 1,250-acre farm where the incident occurred. His gun was seized by police and eight rounds of ammunition taken for ballistic examination on Tuesday.
His three other sons and several other witnesses have also recorded statements on the shooting. Ezekiel and other family members were in court today. The son earlier said they would hold talks with Kibor with the aim of settling the matter out of court.
“He is my father and he has sent emissaries. Though he wanted to kill me, we will talk,” he said.
