Two face charges today for taking part in protest in Ol Kalou over JP certificate

Two suspects who allegedly took part in a protest in Ol Kalou last Thursday will be charged today in court. Supporters of Kaimbaga ward JP nominee Mwangi Nyaga protested after reports that the party intended to deny him the certificate and issue it to his rival Gabriel Gathure.

They lit fires and blocked Gilgil-Nyahururu road before defacing the JP office and painting it with NASA colours. Lawrence Muturi, 36, and John Mburu, 44, were arrested later that evening.

Nyandarua Central OCPD Wilson Kosgei said police are looking for more culprits who will be charged with creating disturbance and malicious damage to property. He said the protest was illegal since police had not been notified. “I want to remind them (politicians) that merchants of violence will face tough action.”
