Cord team to Pay for Losses incurred During IEBC Protests

The CORD could now be forced to pay for losses incurred during demonstrations against the IEBC on Monday.A section of Jubilee Party members has vowed that it would demand compensation to anyone whose property was damaged due to the chaos after getting exact figures.

With Mukurweini legislator and Kabando wa Kabando leading,the leaders said they had commenced an exercise to compile an inventory detailing all damages suffered by business people and members of the public, after which they would get the Opposition to compensate them.

“We are making an inventory of the losses suffered during the riots and those responsible for the violence should be held accountable,” declared Kabando.

Others who addressed the press included Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi ,Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja, former minister Noah Wekesa and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly ,Joyce Laboso who condemned the violence and asked for an amicable solution.

“Jubilee is ready for dialogue but this must be within confines of Parliament. We are ready to listen to CORD, church leaders and anybody else. What we are saying is come, let us talk,” Laboso urged.

Meanwhile, the Federation of Kenya Employers pleaded with CORD to refrain from protests since the outcome was negatively affecting businesses.

“We are disappointed that the quest for electoral reforms has turned into violent confrontations. We feel there should be room for dialogue and accommodation of views,” the group said.

During Monday demonstrations which turned chaotic, property of unknown value was damaged along city streets with several people losing mobile phones and other personal valuables.
