Two people were killed and 12 injured in an accident on Kitale-Eldoret highway on Wednesday. The accident occurred at Bishop Muge at about 11.30 am and involved a lorry and a Kangaroo shuttle on its way from Kitale to Eldoret.
Trans Nzoia police commandant Lillian Okembo said the lorry hit the matatu while its driver tried to overtake. He said this happened when the motorist noticed an oncoming vehicle. Residents said the matatu veered off the road and rolled several times before landing in a maize plantation. Those injured were taken to Kitale hospital, two in critical condition. The bodies were taken to the facility’s mortuary.
Achieng said investigations were launched. Residents asked the government to expand the busy stretch where several accidents have occurred. Two weeks ago, a lorry driver transporting cargo hit and killed a pedestrian near Deep Sea in Kitale town.
