About 320 students from Chuka Boys High School were left stranded on Saturday night after a fire destroyed four cubicles in their dormitory. Chuka-Igambang’ombe police boss Barasa Sayia said no student was injured in the 7pm incident as they were in classrooms attending their preps.
Sayia said the fire destroyed four out of 40 cubicles in the two storey building, which housed about 320 students.
The students’ clothes and books were burnt. Sayia urged teachers to hastily inform police and the fire department in such disasters so they can be quickly contained.
The matter is under police are investigation.
Tharaka Nithi county fire department manager Alex Mugambi said they received a call from a teacher and when they arrived it took them one and a half hours to put out the fire.
