The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission commissioner has denounced the leaked conversation saying that the said leaked chat did not emanate from her and the politician as it is argued.
In a memo dated 24th September to the media houses, signed by Rodelyn Akombe, the commissioner called for prosecution of those spreading such malicious rumours.
“It has been brought to my attention that screenshots of conversations supposedly between myself and political elements are being circulated on social media,” read the memo in part.
Akombe further noted that ” “this is not the first time this has happened and previous similar incidents have all been proven false” as she categorically stated that “the said messages are false and do not represent my views as an impartial public servant”.
The commissioner further accused those spreading the said screenshots that this is a blackmail by malicious people with intention to compromise the commissioners by smearing them with malicious claims.
“I believe this is part of an elaborate and concerted attempt to frustrate the work of the IEBC by smearing Commissioners to negatively impact our preparations for the fresh presidential election. It is sad that many Kenyans are still falling for such deception, which only serves to divide the country.”
“I call for full investigation and prosecution of these malicious elements, who are relentless in their cyber bullying. I urge all fellow Kenyans to be vigilant for fake news and be responsible with the information we pass on to friends and family.”
