A warning has been issued by the government to countries which are working with some individuals to destabilize the country.
Government Spokesman Eric Kiraithe addressed the public that two countries had been conspiring with undisclosed persons to cause insecurity through charged political activities.
“Investigations have yielded intelligence to the effect that there are individuals within the country who are working with two neighbouring countries to subvert the Government and create conditions of instability, insecurity, lawlessness and strife,” disclosed Kiraithe.
The State warned the individuals stating that their actions of collaborating with an enemy of the nation amounted to treason and they would face the full force of the law if found guilty.
The spokesman added that upon completion of investigations, the government would publicize identities of the persons in question, to avoid compromising national security.
“In due course, the Government will be revealing the results of our investigations, and unmasking these despicable traitors,” declared the former police spokesman.
During the conference, Kiraithe announced that Uhuru Park and Nyayo Stadium would remain closed on Madaraka Day to resolve a controversy between the CORD Coalition and a religious group, both of whom claimed to have secured the grounds for their rallies.
Kiraithe stated that the decision to block activities at Uhuru Park on Madaraka Day was arrived at by the National Security Advisory Committee, urging the two parties to organize for their functions at a later date.
The opposition has been staging protests in the past four weeks, demanding for restructuring of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which it accuses of being bias.
Last week, CORD suspended the demonstrations until June 5 to allow for dialogue with the government, failure to which it would resume to the streets.
