Widow to former VP Michael Kijana Wamalwa passes away in Nanyuki

Yvonne Wamalwa, widow of the late former vice president Michael Kijana Wamalwa passed away at Nanyuki cottage hospital. Yvonne died while undergoing treatment at the hospital where she was rushed by her sister Stephanie Muite after developing complications.

She had been ailing from October and was being treated at the outspan hospital in Nyeri while staying at her sister’s home at Ichuga in the outskirts of Nanyuki town.
Confirming the death Laikipia county commander Simon Kipkeu noted that the death was natural and there was nowhere the police were involved.
Earlier reports indicated that the body would be airlift but the commander noted that the family opted to have it taken by road due to logistical issues.

Mrs Wamalwa took a low limelight after her husband passed away just 3 months after their wedding in 2003.

Yvonne served as deputy permanent representative of Kenya to the United Nations Habitat after the death of her husband for 3 years. After which she served in Australia as the deputy high commissioner of Kenya.

Most recently, Yvonne was embroiled in a legal battle with her step sons over usage of funds in the former vice presidents estate where she was accused of failing to account for ksh 3.4 million which was in the late VP’s possession at the time of his death and sh36.7 million released by parliament as his pension.

She has left behind two children – Derrick Mboya and Michelle Chichi
