Four people have been reported dead and 14000 others left homeless following the fire tragedy that occurred yesterday in Langata in the informal settlements of Kijiji in Nairobi County.

Property of unknown value was also destroyed by the fierce flames that gashed through hundreds of the closely built structures, leaving residents counting huge losses.
Nairobi county governor Mike Sonko has so far sent Nairobi counties in charge of fire and rescue services, Brian Kisali on compulsory leave, due to a number of mishaps experienced during the Sunday evening inferno. Nairobi county secretary and head of county public service Leboo Ole Morintant, accused the official of failing to carry out his duties and responsibilities as required of him.
The residents have mixed views regarding the issue as most of them say the incident might have been with politics and land grabbing in the area.
According to the national disaster management unit deputy director of communications, Pius Maasai says some of the bodies are yet to be identified as the cause of fire is yet to be established.
The regional commander, condemned the incident urging the government to intervene.
The question that lingers in Kenyans mind is why the firefighters took a long time to contain the fire basing on the fact that there was no traffic at night.
End.
