Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has today told the Senates’ Public Accounts Committee that the controversial Ruaraka Land is not private property accusing his predecessor Dr. Evans Kidero of working with cartels to steal the land from the public. Sonko was being interrogated on how city hall arrived at a decision to turn Ruaraka Secondary School and Drive Inn Primary schools in to public land.
The 13.5 acre piece of land is said to be at the center of a Sh3.2 billion compensation package to a private businessman. The Chairperson of the National Land Commission Mohammad Swazuri who has been accused of initiating the irregular payments has in the past stated that the land is a private land.
