A man in Kisii county severed a limb of his spouse in one of the worst gender based violence incidents.
In the incident allegedly precipitated by a domestic row, 25 year old Evans Kengere Manyansa reduced his partner, to a perpetual social dependant in a fraction of a second.
But Kengere who hailes from Masagege village,Etago,Gucha South Sub County is still a free person, going about his domestic chores of harvesting maize.
Ednah Kemuma aged 21 and a mother of one was yet to comprehend her love bird’s decision to sneak into her parents’ home where she had sought refugee and unleash the vicious attack on her.
Kisii County Director of health services, Dr. Geofrey Otomu, said the victim was responding well to medication and was out of danger.
Otomu disclosed of increased admissions at the referral health facility of domestic violence cases urging young people to seek advice on how to cope with the marriage institution.
Interviewed at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospita ,Kemuma said she had differences with her husband which prompted her to go to her parents’ home.
Kemuma explained she had just arrived at her parents’ home with vegetables from the market when she received a call from her husband to come out of the house.
A brief argument between the two arose before Kengere pounced on her with a sharp panga cutting off the left arm and inflicting serious injuries on her shoulder and right arm.
Kemuma said her estranged husband also robbed her of her cell phone and fled even as she expressed the desire to care for and educate her son despite the inflicted disability.
Josphine Mokeira, the victim’s mother, condemned the attack and petitioned the government to bring her rogue son –in- law to book.
She appealed for assistance from the government and well-wishers to care for her disabled daughter and grandchild.
The victim’s uncle, Erustus Ogembo said the differences had been simmering for close to six years before the abusive marriage suddenly turned tragic.
