Three people were killed at Kenyenya in Kisii County following a confrontation between the police and members of the public.
Among the dead was a police officer, a public service vehicle driver and a resident.
Representing Kisii county police commander,Abdi Hassan,Kisii central OCPD Francis Ngulu confirmed the incident and said Regional Deputy Police Commander was headed to the ground for assessment of the situation.
Residents interviewed claimed, area police had flagged down a driver of a PSV before a face-off ensued.
The driver was allegedly injured in the process and was rushed to Kenyenya sub-county hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Enraged by the death, irate members of the public confronted the police at Kenyenya stadium where the resident and police officer died.
The so-called green stadium virtually turned into a battlefield which also saw the residents and officers sustain injuries when the dust settled.
Upon reinforcements from the county police headquarters, the riot police officers managed to remove the bodies to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Kisii county commissionor,Godfrey Kigochi who was in Nairobi on official duties said calm had been restored at the area.
