The Murang’a County Executive Member for water Mr. Paul Ngang’a Macharia was today arraigned before a Murang’a court where he faced robbery with violence charges.
Before Murang’a Principal Magistrate Mr. Anthony Mwichigi, he was charged that on 27th August 2018 at Kiawambeu Water Treatment Plant in Kiharu, he violently robbed Sh. 13,450 from Mr. Eston Gathima Kaiyego who is a director of Murang’a Water and Sanitation Company (Muwasco).
The minister who was represented by Mr. Alex Mbue denied the charge and was released on a bond of Sh. 500,000 plus a surety of a similar amount or an alternative cash bail of Sh. 200,000.
The court directed that the matter be mentioned on 17thNovember 2018 when the case will be consolidated with another one he is facing of assaulting the complainant when he committed the offence.
The CEC spent the night in custody at Murang’a police station after he was arrested yesterday immediately after paying the Sh. 200,000 cash bail for the earlier offence.
In the first offence, Mr. Macharia is charged alongside two male suspects Mr. Alex Mbote and Mr. Mwangi Chege who both work for Murang’a County Government.
