The Estate Agents Act is being reviewed to streamline the Estate Agency practice and kick out bogus property brokers. Lands and Physical Planning Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi said that the act is also being reviewed to address gaps in membership of the Estate Agents Board and provide adequate linkages to other regulatory and enforcement agencies.
While addressing stakeholders in Real Estate in Nairobi, Prof.Kaimenyi said there is need of changing the act which was enacted 31 years ago and address the various social, political and economic changes that have taken place over the years.
Among the proposed changes are,any person involved in Real Estate must be a Diploma Holder or a Degree Holder in Real Estate from a recognized institution, he or she must be a member of a Real Estate Board that is vetted by the Government and also charge a standard amount agreed upon by the government for any property sold depending with the location.
