Matiangi to unveil the new police internal affairs unit

Dr Fred Matiangi, Interior Cabinet Secretary, will in the course of the day officially open the new National Police Service’s Internal Affairs Unit whose offices will be based at Upper Hill. The mandate of the unit will be receiving and investigating complaints against the police.

It was established under section 87 of the National Police Service Act, Chapter 84 Laws of Kenya with Subsection 7 citing that it shall be located in a separate office from the rest of the other police units.

The National Police Service’s unit will be set to promote high standards of professionalism and discipline and prevent corruption and promote transparency and accountability. It will expected to nurture integrity, utmost respect for human rights and promote good relationship with the society.

The function is set to be attended by the Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet, top police commanders, development partners, members of the diplomatic corps, and various stakeholders
