Girls outshine boys in Garrisa County

Girls in Northern Kenya have this time round proved to be academic giants by beating boys hands down topping in three famous schools in Garissa town.
In Al Azhar Primary School out of 14 pupils who scored above 400 marks, 8 were girls while in Mnara Schools only 2 boys managed to make into the best 15 of over 400 marks.In ACK Primary School six girls made into the top ten with Zahra Dagane Aden got 416 marks and Sabrin Aweis Mohammed got 402 marks.
At Mnara academy,Umihan Abdi topped the school, coming second overall she said she was looking forward to joining alliance high school and perusing medicine at the university.
Little Known Al Azaar school which produced the best student in last years KCPE exam has once again topped the region by topping in yesterdays results that were announced by Education CS Amina Mohamed.
It was dance and Music for the school which is located in  Bula Mzuri in the outskirts of Garissa town when it emerged that Abdirahman Aden,14 topped the region with 428 marks.
Last year Insat Abdullahi who topped the region with 410 marks was admitted in Limuru Girls.
Others who got over 400 marks are AhmedQadar Mohamed 424, Abdirahman Aden 418, Mohamed Abdi 409, Abdifatah Mohamed 405, Shueb Mukhtar 402, and Ifrah Muhumed 402
Speaking to the press at the school, the top student said he expected to perform well but not top the region.
“I expected to perform better because of the  hard work I did put into my studies and the encouragement I got from the teachers ,parents and fellow students. toping the region however come as a pleasant surprise,” said Abdirahaman.
Abdirahaman,14 a fourth born in a family of five and whose parents do manual jobs for a living said he was looking forward to joining Starehe high and subsequently studying engineering at the university.
“As a region we are short of engineers, this has greatly hampered development in the region since we are forced to source for expertise from other areas. I hope and pray I will become and fix the problem even if it is in a small way,” said the top boy.
The schools manager Ahmed Sambur said that the results were achieved through sheer hard work, determination and cooperation from the parents, teachers and students.
I want to say that one person cannot achieve this splendid results. It takes maximum cooperation to achieve this. work done can already been seen,” said Ahmed.
He also thanked the education ministry for coming up stringent measures that created a level playing field for all candidates saying that unlike before when leakage of exams was the order of the day.
