The 10 year old boy who was among the five shot by gunmen who attacked Chakama, Kilifi county trading center and abducted an Italian Aid worker has been referred to Mombasa for a specialized treatment after doctors failed to remove the bullet in his eye.
Mohamed Kalume Konde, 10, was shot on the left eye during the attack but efforts by the surgeons at Malindi sub county hospital to remove it failed.
He was transferred to Mombasa coast general hospital to be treated by a neurosurgeon.
On the material day, Konde was shot as the gunmen fled with Manager of African Milele Onlus after abducting her from a rental house.
The bullet is still in the head though it did not penetrate the skull according to doctors.
On Thursday evening Evans Nyabwage a senior administrator at Malindi sub County hospital said the other four victims including the 50 year old woman Samini Garama Dadu who was shot on the chest were in stable condition.
Others who sustained injuries include Ibrahim Said 16 who was shot on the leg while coming from a video shop, Elias Mwaringa Kathua, 12, who was shot on the left thigh and Katana Jeffa, 20, who was shot on the right thigh.
Nyabuto who was speaking during a tourism stakeholder’s press conference in Malindi said the condition of the boy was also not dangerous.
Godfrey Njenga from the department of health at Malindi sub county hospital commended the security officials for the proper coordination during the rescue mission after the attack.
He called on locals to exercise peace and desist from retaliatory attacks targeting pastoralists living in Chakama and its environs.
Currently police are using drones to track the suspected militants with a view to rescue the Italian aid worker and arrest the suspects who abducted him.
A team of Special Forces from KDF, GSU, Kenya Police, Administration police, and KWS are on the ground on 24 hour basis since the attack trying to pursue the gun men.
There is also military choppers and police chopper that are doing air patrols to ensure they trace the suspects.
On Thursday Coast Regional police boss Noah Mwivanda said they are monitoring the entire area of operations with drones a high technology that can easily detect the criminals.
He also gave structured ground system numbers for the public all over to communicate to the police in case they spot the attackers who are still at large.
The numbers are 0741,227040, 0741226768,0741226837, and 0741227110 together for public to report and assured them that their information would be treated with confidence.
“Security personnel are in the area to ensure the kidnapped Italian is found, we shall also ensure the suspects are arrested, if they resist they will be dealt accordingly,’’ he said.
