Auctioneers raid church and cart away properties in land ownership dispute

Faithfuls at the Kisima cha Neema cha Mwana wa Daudi Church in Mombasa today morning were left in shock after auctioneers descended on their place of worship and carted away church properties worth Sh.10.2 million.

Church founder Bishop Mary Kagendo said a prominent investor who is eyeing the church land come with the auctioneers protected by police from Bamburi police station and took away a generator, livestock, chairs and lorry to the chagrin of the worshipers.

Bishop Kagendo said people who leased the government land have been harassing her and the faithful in a tussle over ownership and demanding that she pays them huge sums of money.

‘They come here several times in the company of the influential businessman and we paid them Sh.1.5 and Sh.500, 000 at different times’ she said adding that they have even put up a parameter wall to keep away land grabbers.

She said she has been out of the country seeking specialized treatment after she was involved in a tragic road accident that claimed several of her family members.

She said the land is government owned and has previously on several occasions been promised by President Uhuru Kenyatta who worshiped at the church in Mombasa that the land would be given to the church.

Bishop Kagendo rose to fame in 2013 after accurately prophesying the jubilee coalition will win in the March polls.

She appealed to the president to come to her aid and rescue her from people she said were out to disposes her of the land in which her church stands.

‘We seek the president’s intervention to kick out the grabbers out of the church land as efforts to move them out of the land bore no fruit in the past’ she said.

Bishop Kgendo said she sought government assistance and made several trips to state house and met deputy head of public service Wanyama Musiambo who promised that the land would revert back to the church.

Joshua Kombea church youth who was present during the incident said the auctioneer stormed the church compound with the Indian elderly man but hired goons who vandalized and broke property under the protection of the police .

Kombe said at one time a police officer cocked a gun to a youth who tried to bar the auctioneers from carrying away the church goods.
