Kakamega Governor Wycliff Ambetasa Oparanya was elected as the new chair of the Council of Governors Monday. Oparanya who takes over the position from Turkana’s Josephat Nanok, has promised to push the central government on top of working with key stakeholders to ensure that the devolved system of governance works well.
Allocation of resources still remains a challenge in fully implementating the devolved system of governance.
This is according to the former chairman of the Council of governors Josephat Nanok.
Speaking during the handing over of power to the incoming Chair of the council, Nanok termed the unequal resource allocation for county governments as an impediment to devolution.
While commending the outgoing COG for a wonderful job done by team for the last period of a year, the devolution secretary Eugene Wamalwa stated the government’s commitment in supporting devolution.
Kakamega Governor Wycliff Oparanya on his side has promised to use all means to ensure the government funds counties as required.
Oparanya has been elected by COG members and will serve as the chair for one year assisted by Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria with Makueni’s Kivutha Kibwana serving as the council’s chief whip.
