Nurses strike still on in eight counties

At least seven county government have resolved their disputes with nurses to end the strike that was on its second day Tuesday. Kenya National Union of Nurses secretary general Seth Panyako says county that will not have shown commitment to resolve the stalemate will be issued with fresh strike notices.

Out of the eight counties that are still on strike, Nairobi is currently in a meeting with a view of having resolutions to pay the allowances. the eight include West Pokot, Kisii, Wajir, Nairobi, Taita Taveta and Elgeyo Marakwet.

“We have recieveda letter from Kisii which is full of threats but they are set to resolve the issues” Panyako said.

He further says that Elgeyo Marakwqet is currently meeting with stakeholders to resolve the stalemate.

In the counties of Homabay abd Marsabit, the strike notice indicates the practinioners will put down their tools on 6 february as no talks have been intitiated.

Panyako also hit put at women Governors from Kitui, Bomet and Kirinyaga saying no commitment has been communicated from the said counties despite them being led by women.

” We have no business having discussions with the Ministry of Labour. We are dealing with county governments on this strike,” Panyako said.

“We support the President on the Big Four Agenda and especially on achieving UHC, we hover urge the president to open his eyes and look out for those who want to sabotage his agenda.” He added.
