Teacher arraigned in court for beating student to death in Bungoma

A teacher, Mr. Chrispinus Wanyonyi at Bishop Atundo High School in Kamaeti, Bumula Sub County, Bungoma County has been arraigned in court for allegedly beating to death a 16yr old form two student by the name Bethwel Ogola.

It is alleged that the teacher who was doing his normal disciplinary sessions during a maths revision class, beat Bethwel until he fell to the ground injuring his head.

Bethwel was later taken to a local dispensary and later to Bungoma West where he was in a coma. The incident occurred on 11th February 2019 and he died on 3rd March 2019 while undergoing treatment.

According to the relatives, the boy was hit at the back of the head hence injuring him and that’s what led to his death. They are now seeking justice for the lost soul.

Police asked to be given 14 more days to finish their investigation but they were granted seven days by senior magistrate C.Mutai sighting that in the interest of justice.

Mention will be on 13th February 2019.

In the same court Mt Elgon killer brothers, Chebarkach and Ngeiywo were Tuesday arraigned in court in one of the murder cases they face in connection with the killing sprees in Mt Elgon.

The two brothers who yesterday caused commotion at the Bungoma Law Courts when they refused to enter the courts and caused drama by shouting and wailing. They were under heavy security from the police, CID and prisons department.

The two however asked the court to give them witness statements, and all the necessary documents in connection to the case they were handling.

Senior magistrate Ca Mutai instructed the prosecution to give them the necessary documents which they were given in court..

Police prosecutor Job Akello however said that the murder suspects were just causing unnecessary delays in the case because they were given the files while in prison and they refused to take.

Judge Mutai set the day for hearing on 7th of May 2019, mention on 19th of March to enable the accused prepare for the case.
