Family appeals for help after son contracts rare condition

A family in a village in Naivasha has been left suffering after their first born son developed a rare condition that has seen him paralyzed on one side of the body affecting his growth and development.

For the family of Jane Nduta, life has been unbearable taking care of her 18 year old son who has never walked and cannot be admitted to a special school.

A visit to their family’s Kinamba home on the outskirts of the lake side town found the dire situation they were living in with even getting basic needs like food proving to be hard.

Matters have been made worse after the husband left them after discovering that their son would never walk following the condition that has seen his back curved.

The mother of two who is a casual labourer had at one time contemplated suicide after life became unbearable fending for to two sons without an income at all.

Addressing the press, an emotional Nduta told how she has been neglected by her in laws who chased them out of the house her husband had constructed terming her as a bad omen.

She said she has been forced to rely on well wishers for education of her kids adding that in most cases they go without food complicating an already worse situation.

“At first my husband thought that our first born child would walk but as years went on he began accusing me with all manner of things leading to his running away from us”.

“He left us when our son was eight years and ten years down the line we have been forced to look for help because even raising rent has been a problem for us”.

She said the second born son who is 14 years is also at home after completing KCPE but has not joined secondary school for lack of fees.

Nduta explained that her son needs a special wheel chair that can fit in the style of the body so that he too can go to school.

“They were in the same class with the our second born but even when we checked at the nearby special schools they declined to admit him due to his condition they termed as worse”.

She added that most of the cases she is forced to stay at home to look after him as he needs round the clock attention.

She called on well wishers to come to her aid and help with the specialized wheel chair so that she can concentrate of fending for her family with ease.
