Wikithuki Primary school in Mwingi West constituency emerged winners in the fourth edition of the Green Initiative Challenge, this is after the school outperformed other over 400 schools from Kitui, Machakos and Embu county in growing trees.
The school will now have 30 of their students taken for a trip to Mombasa among many other goodies, as a reward for conserving the environment and winning the challenge which is organized through a partnership between KENGEN, Bamburi and Better Globe organization.
According to Joshua Chege, the chair of KENGEN who spoke during the launch of the fifth edition of the challenge at Kyusani Primary school in Mwingi west constituency yesterday, the partnership has seen more than Ksh 10 Million injected in the tree planting program on yearly basis and great milestones have since been achieved. Kyusyani primary school was the third in the green initiative challenge.
Mr. Chege said that another 100 schools have been added into the challenge, bringing the number of schools participating to 500.
Other partners also expressed their commitment in promoting tree planting across the country as a way of giving back to the society.
