Uriri High School students in Migori set a dormitory ablaze after they were denied a chance to watch the AFCON tournament between Kenya and Algeria. There were no reports of casualties though property of unknown value was destroyed.
A guard at the school raised the alarm shortly before 11 pm. According to the school Principal, Nicholas Hongo, the fire was contained with the help of the neighbouring community and the students themselves.
“We have launched an investigation into the incident; we will record statements from teachers and students to ascertain what transpired,” said school Principal Nicholas Hongo.
The fire comes barely three weeks after another dormitory was razed within the school after the students were reportedly barred from interacting with a group of girl guides who were camping at the school’s playground.
