The government through the National Employment Authority (NEA) has ordered all employers in Kenya to identify and submit its list of employees by July 8, 2019. The process is aimed at identifying vacancies, so as to help potential job seekers find employment.
According to the Employment Act 2007, all employers are required to submit returns regarding: notification of vacancies, notification of filing or abolition of posts, and notification of termination of employment. This information is filled on the NEA website, which also requires employers to fill out details regarding: name of employer, full address, place of work, type of work (casual, permanent or term contract), details of the vacant post, minimum qualification required of the person seeking to be employed, and any other information that the director of NEA may require.
In the notice that appeared in local dailies, employers were reminded that they should keep a register, which captures the name, age, sex, occupation, date of employment, nationality and educational level of each employee.
Any employer that fails to submit the list by the due date is liable to a fine of up to Ksh.100,000 or a six-month jail term.
