Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor Prof. Paul K Wainana attended the Nyandarua High School Alumni Day. Wainana, an old boy of the Institution, gave the key note speech. The chief guest at the event was Health CS Sicily Kariuki. Also in attendance was Nyandarua West Deputy County Commissioner, Mr Hezron Nyamberi.
Wainana started off by reminding the students that all of them have the potential to be anything they want and what they are engaging in at school is very important.
Wainana’s speech read: “It gives me great pleasure to be part of this important occasion where most of us have assembled in our alma mater. I feel not only humbled but deeply emotional to come to my former school from where my dreams were hatched and crystalized 50 years ago. I am nostalgic of the good old days in this school; the dorms, the classes, the teachers and my fellow classmates. I sincerely thank the Alumni Association for seeking me out to be part of this important day…..”
Wainana counselled the students on life. He emphasized that as they go along with life, especially the academic journey, they need to be aware that it’s not always a smooth journey; it is filled with challenges, and it is only those who have the determination, discipline, dedication and God’s favour that will succeed.
To the form ones he said, “It is here that you are supposed to set your goals early, learn to manage your time and choose your friends carefully. For you to navigate through this stage you need to continue developing life skills such as decision making, problem-solving, assertiveness and self-awareness that will help you to overcome the challenges you are likely to encounter.”
To the form fours, “Start thinking about your career paths and set objectives of what you wish to become. Believe in yourselves that you can make it and therefore, set high enough targets.”
He finished by saying, “Once again, students, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for making me and KU part of this great re-union. I believe this is just but the beginning of a sustained and fruitful association that will benefit both institutions.”
