Senator Mutula Kilonzo junior slammed the National assembly and Senate speakers saying they are the cause of the recent stalemate between the two houses.
Kilonzo categorically stated the recent move by the national assembly to reduce allocation of county funds is geared at scraping devolution.
He went on to say that allocating government agencies more funds and denying the counties an additional Ksh 2 billion will deter development in the counties
Kilonzo was speaking during a fundraiser at Chief Kiamba Primary School in Kilome constituency,Makueni County. The outspoken senator recommended that the two speakers should consult whenever a controversial bill is being tabled in both houses.
Kilome MP Eng. Kithua Nzambia said the senate needs to be empowered to perform oversight in the counties. He added that the senate hasn’t been playing its oversight role adequately, therefore governors have been mismanaging the funds allocated in their counties
Time and again Senate has been accused of overstepping its mandate by the National Assembly. Members of the National Assembly feel that Senate keeps duplicating work leading to wastage of public resources.
