Nakuru Governor pushes for City status

By Mercy Imali

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui plans to transform the municipality into a city. This is despite resistance by political leaders in the county. Kinyanjui said that city status would unlock Nakuru’s economic potential and no leader should oppose the move.

He asked Nakuru residents to remain focused and avoid the ongoing divisive politics in the country. He further asked them to review the implementation of his 2017 manifesto come 2022.

A large section of Nakuru leaders led by Senator Susan Kihika have asked for the process to be delayed for ten years citing unpreparedness. All the elected MPs from the 11 constituencies in Nakuru County, claimed that Nakuru municipality was not ready to become a city during a debate on Nakuru’s elevation

They submitted a 10-point memorandum, requesting for the upgrade should be delayed by 10 years
