Cabinet Secretary for Health, Sicily Kariuki has emphasized that the role of environmental health in the prevention of illnesses and promotion of well-being cannot be underscored as 16% of the global disease burden is attributable to environmental health issues.

Dr. Eva Njenga, chair of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council spoke on her behalf at the ceremony affirming accreditation of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health at Mount Kenya University. She said that Health Regulatory Boards play a critical role in ensuring quality training and provide continuous professional development in terms of health practitioners.

Dr. Njenga added that the course will aid in addressing health challenges posed by tobacco use and disease outcomes such as cancer and respiratory infections.
