THE KEY IS WITH THE PRESIDENT.

It’s high time the president of the republic of Kenya came out in the open to provide leadership for the country he swore to protect. It’s important for him  to come to the realization that millions of Kenyans entrusted him with the responsibility of leading us from the front. Honarable President Uhuru Kenyatta moved around the country to every region to seek support from all Kenyans during his campaigns, he therefore is elected and given responsibility to serve 42 tribes, 8 provinces and 47 counties.

When MPs, Senators and other different leaders come up with actions that seem to put the unity of our nation to test, the president should come out strongly and condemn such acts. So far, we have had the issue of hate speech that has touched on a number of leaders. People coming out openly to insult others and their communities raising the political temperatures of the country and slowly starting up a cold war between communities.

It’s fortunate that the CID and the NCIC led by Ole Kaparo came out with immediate effect to condemn the matter and bring the perpetrators of hate to book but it’s only proper that the president comes out and openly condemns these people including those in his coalition. Once the president’s voice is heard on the matter and a stern warning by himself given., People will treat it as a matter of national concern and no one will dare go against the word of the head of state. Otherwise in such trivial matters when he stays silent, he may even be misjudged for favoring some hate mongers against others.

The IEBC case being one of the sensitive topics in the country today that has even seen weekly demonstrations, deaths and destruction of property, is a matter that simply needs the President’s action. It’s not necessarily about following constitutional procedure even when it’s meant to divide the country, its more about the Leader sourcing the best prescription to a problem.

Taking a case study of the case of the former Inspector General, former Cabinet secretary for devolution, former cabinet secretary of defense just to mention a few, the president came out when issues went overboard and provided leadership, for instance, the IG had security of tenure but the president asked him to resign for the sake of the interests of the state. This leaves me asking the question, why in the IEBC matter, the president cannot simply ask Isaac Hassan together with the other commissioners to resign for the sake of our country which is bigger than an individual.

I believe the president hold the key to the ultimate conclusion of these matters affecting the country. After all he is the commander in chief of the armed forces.
