Mtongwe residents oppose the suspension of ferry services for six months

Mtongwe residents from Likoni Sub-County have opposed plans by Kenya Ferry Services management (KFS) to build pontoons instead of ferry lamps at the Mtongwe crossing channel during a public participation meeting held at Mtongwe yesterday.

Led by their Mtongwe Member of County Assembly (MCA) Hamisi Mwindani the residents also opposed the move to suspend the ferry services for six months during the construction work. Hamisi Mwindani said the 28 million allocated to build the platoons was enough to build a ramp instead. Hamisi sentiments were echoed by Member of Parliament from Likoni Hon Mishi Boko who said the KFS management should provide a permanent solution by building a ramp.

More than 10,000 Mtongwe ferry users will be forced to use the Likoni channel where more than 300,000 people cross daily.
