Nyandarua governor Francis Kimemia has condemned the recent demolitions of kiosks and business premises in Ol-Kalou town by the Kenya Railways Corporation.
While terming the demolitions as uncalled, Kimemia noted that KRC ought to have given the business people ample time to clear their wares.
He added that it was prudent had the corporation consulted with the local leadership and the victims before executing the move.
Kimemia observed that it would be unfortunate to see the areas occupied by the business people lie idle before the KRC clears the debris yet it could benefit them before workmanship begins.
He now wants the management to look into ways of compensating those with genuine leases.
Kenya Railways had on Tuesday moved in with bulldozers and embarked on demolitions of kiosks and buildings set up on the corporation’s land to pave way for the rehabilitation of the Gilgil-Nyahururu road.
This is part of the exercise KRC was undertaking in major towns in order to revamp the railway lines.
During the Tuesday demolitions, over 3,000 business people were left counting loses as they made frantic efforts to salvage their belongings.
Property worth millions of shillings was brought down, during the exercise by KRC meant to reclaim part of its land reserve.
The exercise saw popular hotels and eateries, Salons and kinyozi’s, hardwares, churches among other businesses brought down.
