GOVERNMENT FAST TRACKS COMPLETION OF PROJECTS TO ENHANCE SERVICE DELIVERY

The residents of Nyeri County are set to reap big from national government projects that are in their final stages of completion.

The ambitious projects anchored on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four agenda in Food Security, Housing, Manufacturing and Health Care are also geared towards the actualization of Vision 2030. Speaking at the modern Chaka market yesterday; Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Principal Secretary Joseph Irungu said that the government is committed to ensure all development projects undertaken in Nyeri County are completed.

“We are here to inspect and ensure that the national government projects that are being undertaken in Nyeri are actually completed,” Irungu said.

He spoke during an inspection tour of Kenyatta National Hospital- Othaya Annex, Riamukurwe water irrigation project and affordable housing project in Nyeri town, Chaka and Karatina markets in Kieni and Mathira constituencies respectively.

Irungu who was accompanied by PS Susan Mochache (Health) and Zainab Abdalla (Correctional Services), Dr. Chris Kiptoo (Environment and Forestry) and Nairobi Metropolitan Services deputy director- general Kang’ethe Thuku said that the government has initiated several development projects in Nyeri County and the ones being inspected are nearing completion.

“We are fast tracking them for commissioning and this contractor here we have told him he has two weeks to finish,” Irungu said at Chaka market.

The PS added “This is a president’s project and is a milestone and we want to ensure it is completed.” The first and second phases of the shillings one billion project are almost complete and only the final touches are being done before traders are allowed to operate.

He further said that President Kenyatta is very particular about national government projects in Nyeri County to ensure residents access quality services and spur economic growth of the region. Speaking during the same occasion,

MPs Kanini Kega (Kieni) and Ngunjiri Wambugu (Nyeri) hailed the government for the development projects undertaken in the area.

Wambugu censured people accusing the government of doing nothing in the region and asked them to ‘open’ their eyes and look around.

“There has been a lot of noise that no work is being done by the national government and people saying that should actually look and see what is being done by the government,” Wambugu said.

Kega noted that once the Chaka complex is operational, it will become the economic hub of the region due to its strategic position along the Nyeri-Marsabit road and the revitalized railway line.

He assured traders operating on the roadside that all will be accommodated in the modern market to carry out their businesses in a safe environment.
