MACHAKOS BY-ELECTIONS CAMPAIGNS OFFICIALLY END

A fierce political battle is expected between wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Machakos governor Dr. Alfred Mutua and former Machakos senator Johnstone Muthama as they face off in the Machakos senatorial by-election set for 18th this Thursday.

Campaigns geared towards the mini poll  came to an end yesterday evening at 6 pm following IEBC’s notice to terminate the exercise as the election body seeks to finalize the preparations.

After president Uhuru Kenyatta banned the political gatherings, the candidates turned to prerecorded audio messages to mobilize voters following the suspension of planned rallies due to Covid-19.

A tough battle is expected between front runners from the Wiper party, Maendeleo Chap chap and newly formed UDA.

Ten candidates will square it off. They include John Katuku (Maendeleo Chap chap), Agnes Kavindu (Wiper), Stanley Muindi (Party of Economic Democracy), Jonathan Maweu (independent), Francis Munyambu (independent), Sebastian Nthama (independent), Urbanus Muthama (UDA), Simeon Kitheka (Grand Dream Development Party), John Musingi (Muungano) and Musembi Nthenge of Ford Asili.

Wiper Senatorial Candidate Agnes Kavindu Muthama has trashed claims that she is not qualified to run for the Machakos Senatorial position claiming that her opponents are afraid of her impending victory.

Both Katuku and Urbanus  have pleaded with Machakos residents to turn out in large numbers adding that IEBC should conduct a free and fair election.
