A group of teachers from Kiambu have thrown their weight behind Susan Waititu, the widow of fallen Juja Member of Parliament Francis Munyua Waititu ‘Wakapee’ ahead of the May 18th by-election.
The tutors, most of them members of the Kenya Post-Primary Education Teachers Union (KUPPET) and Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) vowed to mobilize their colleagues and parents in Juja to vote for Mrs Waititu.
Led by Kuppet’ Kiambu county chairperson Rose Kiiru and Kewota coordinator Irene Githinji, the teachers said the widow was best suited to succeed her husband and complete his projects.
Kiiru said Susan has what it takes to lead Juja given that she was in charge of the constituency office and its operations when her husband was taken ill over three years ago.
Ms Githinji concurred and appealed to female teachers in the constituency to turn out in large numbers and vote for one of their own during the Jubilee nominations this Saturday.
Mrs Waititu welcomed the gesture and said she will not let the teachers down noting that her husband was their biggest supporter.
Meanwhile, the late MP’s first born son Michael Munyua declared he is supporting his mother, thereby quelling rumours that he was going to oppose her.
He said he has confidence that Mrs Waititu will comfortably fit into their late father’s shoes and added that the family is united behind her.
Munyua spoke amid speculation that he was going to back one of their mother’s opponents owing to a family feud. He was accompanied by two of his sisters Terry Njeri and Christine Munyua.
