How Miss Tourism Mombasa won Vihiga audience with her powerful message

Miss Tourism Mombasa County, Babylynn Mukila displayed resilience in the face of tough competition and received an award of honour for taking part in Miss Tourism Kenya 2016.Though she did not emerge the winner, Ms Mukila, who is deaf, won the hearts of the judges and leaders who attended the event and was awarded the Miss Congeniality Award.

On Saturday June 18,Ms Mukila , 22-year-old moved audiences in Kidundu Stadium in Vihiga  with her powerful message when she took to the stage to market the coastal county.

She bagged herself Miss Congeniality award following her zeal, determination and sense of self-belief that disability is not inability as she triumphed over her inability to speak or hear and emerged the ultimate beauty to represent Mombasa in the national Miss Tourism contest.

Through an interpreter, Ms Mukila told the audience and panel of judges why Mombasa County is a must visit tour destination.

“Mombasa County has different tribes, all people; and a rich and diverse culture; people who are living together in peace and unity – both local and international populations. In Mombasa County we have the Old Town, Fort Jesus and the best historical sites,” she said.

Ms Mukila beat ten beauties in Mombasa to be crowned the county’s fairest model.The beauty had first tried her hand at the beauty pageant in 2015 and came second in the county finals.

Through the help of an interpreter she participated again in 2016  this time round, she won.Her victory in the Mombasa County finals is a game changer in the modeling industry where event organizers often do not accommodate people living with disability.
